A bedroom should be the place where your shoulders drop at the end of a long day. Here are a few simple projects to make that happen, even when you can’t paint or drill into the walls.
Make a fabric headboard
Wrap a piece of lightweight foam board in leftover linen or a favorite fabric, then secure it at the back with fabric tape. Rest it against the wall behind your bed for a soft, removable focal point.
Choose a tone that feels restful to you: chalky blue, warm sand or muted sage all sit comfortably alongside natural wood.
Change the light, change the mood
Swap a harsh overhead bulb for a warm one, then add a small table lamp or battery-powered wall light. A softer pool of light makes evenings feel quieter and gives texture to even the simplest bedding.
Finish with something living
A small plant, fresh branches or a vase of market flowers can make a room feel cared for. If your windows don’t get much sun, try a low-light plant or simply bring in natural textures through woven baskets and wooden frames.
