At 21, I moved to Dubai on my own, with a suitcase and a heart full of dreams (and, honestly, a few fears too). What followed were ten wonderful years: I flew around the world, discovered new cultures, and learned that home isn’t a place you’re born in. It’s something you build.
Then life called me in a new direction. My mum lost my stepfather, and I knew it was time to be close to her again. So I moved to Portugal, and this time we were both starting over as immigrants, together.
Since then, we’ve moved more than once. Different apartments, different neighbourhoods, empty rooms waiting to be filled. And every time, we did the same thing: we made it ours. A soft blanket on the sofa, warm lights in the evening, a few thoughtful touches that turned four walls into a place where we could finally breathe.
